The Sabbath
Many Christians today either question the Sabbath or do not understand the significance of it. What day does it fall on? To what extent do we observe it? First look at how important this day is to Yahweh.
Exo 20:8-11
Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. (9) Six days you labor,
and shall do all your work, (10) but the seventh day is a Sabbath of Yahweh your Elohim. You do not do
any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your
cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. (11) For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the
earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath
day and set it apart.
The Scriptures
That was one of the Ten Commandments of Yahweh. Now look at a promise to those who show it Holy.
Isa 56:6-7
Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to Yahweh to
serve Him, and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants, all who guard the Sabbath, and not profane
it, and hold fast to My covenant (7) them I shall bring to My set-apart mountain, and let them
rejoice in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their slaughterings are accepted on My altar,
for My house is called a house of prayer for all the peoples.
The Scriptures
Now here is an example of how serious it was if you chose not to observe it.
Num 15:32-36
Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they
found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering sticks brought him
to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. 34 They put him under guard, because it had not been
explained what should be done to him. 35 Then (Yahweh) the LORD said to Moses, "The man must surely be
put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp." 36 So, as the LORD
commanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he
died.
NKJV
Yeshua (Jesus) did not make any change to the Sabbath except for one.
Matt 12:11-13
Then He (Jesus) said to them, "What man is there among you
who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12
Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
"
NKJV
The Sabbath is a day that is still as Holy to Yahweh as it was the day He made it. Churches here in
America do not teach much on the Sabbath. It is in the Bible. But if you do not read the Old testament
you will not understand the significance of the Sabbath. It is a day we should set aside "work"
and use it as a day to Worship God. Even at home! During the week take care of your laundry, shopping,
yard work, etc....... Honor God on the Sabbath. Jesus declared if you help someone in need on the
Sabbath, that is OK. And he is Lord of the Sabbath.
In the western world we look at Sunday as our
Sabbath. The Jewish people still observe the Sabbath from Friday at Sundown until Saturday at sundown
based on the story of creation in the book of Genesis. If you want to observe Yahweh's Sabbath, you may
want to consider following the Jewish tradition. Otherwise, even if you work
weekends, find a 24 hour period to Honor Yahweh's Sabbath.
