Marriage

Gen 2:18-19
And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."
NKJV

Mark 10:6-9
But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female.' 7'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8'and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
NKJV

Eph
5:22-24
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
NKJV

Eph 5:25-28
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
NKJV

Col 3:18-19
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
NKJV

1 Peter 3:1-2
Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.
(NIV)

1 Peter 3:7
Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
NKJV

Titus 2:1-5
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
NIV

Matt 5:32
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife (or husband) for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
NKJV

Christian marriage was ordained by God. He set the standards from the days of Adam and Eve. Jesus and the Apostle Paul reconfirmed the relationship between husband and wife. It is a covenant between two people that is, according to God, as binding as a contract to buy a home or car.

These scriptures define the role of husband and wife. It was not a cultural thing. It is a Christian thing. No where in scripture did God change these roles. It is not a reason for a woman to submit to an abusive situation. It does not mean a woman does not have a mind of her own.
A husband that loves his wife will listen to her and be aware that God has given her as a gift to compliment her husband.
