Marriage
Gen 2:18-19
And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a
helper comparable to him."
NKJV
Mark 10:6-9
But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female.' 7'For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8'and the two shall become one
flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not
man separate."
NKJV
Eph
5:22-24
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of
the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as
the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
NKJV
Eph 5:25-28
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for
her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might
present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she
should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he
who loves his wife loves himself.
NKJV
Col 3:18-19
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your
wives and do not be bitter toward them.
NKJV
1 Peter 3:1-2
Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not
believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the
purity and reverence of your lives.
(NIV)
1 Peter 3:7
Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to
the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be
hindered.
NKJV
Titus 2:3-5
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not
given to much wine, teachers of good things-- 4 that they admonish the young
women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste,
homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not
be blasphemed.
NKJV
Matt 5:32
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife (or husband) for any reason
except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced
commits adultery.
NKJV
It is my belief that these scriptures define the role of
husband and wife. It was not a cultural thing. No where in scripture did God
change these roles. Man (or woman) is the one who decided certain scripture's
were no longer "necessary". It is not a reason for a woman
to submit to an abusive situation. It does not mean a woman does not have a mind
of her own. It does not mean that a woman cannot have a personality.
A husband that loves his wife will listen to her and be aware that God has given
her a gift to compliment her husband.
