Old Covenant (Testament)
2 Cor 3:2-6
You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 3 clearly you are an epistle of Christ,
ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets
of flesh, that is, of the heart.
4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything
as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant,
not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
NKJV
Heb 9:1-5
Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For a tabernacle
was prepared: the first part, in which was the lamp stand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary;
3 and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, 4 which had the golden
censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna,
Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; 5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the
mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
NKJV
Gen 17:1-2
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before
Me and be blameless. 2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."
NKJV
Gen 17:10-11
This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you
shall be circumcised; 11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant
between Me and you.
NKJV
Ex 24:7-8
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do,
and be obedient." 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the
LORD has made with you according to all these words."
NKJV
First there was the covenant that Yahweh made with Abraham. The fulfillment of that covenant would not come to pass until the Messiah came. Then God established Israel as his chosen people. God gave Moses the Torah (Law) as a guide so that they would not sin against him. The purpose of this was to "lead" the people to the Messiah.
