Pastors and Teachers
1 Cor 3:5-9
What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe-as the Lord has assigned to
each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters
is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will
be rewarded according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
NIV
1 Cor 3:11-15
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man
builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is,
because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be
saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
(NIV)
Rom 1:29-30
They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They
are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters,
insolent, arrogant and boastful
(NIV)
Eph 4:11-15
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for
the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of
the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14
that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in
the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the
head--Christ--
NKJV
Phil 2:3-5
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of
you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
NIV
James 3:1
My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
NKJV
2 Tim 4:3-5
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their
ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work
of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
NIV
Eph 4:11
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors
and teachers,
NIV
1 Cor 12:28-31
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles,
also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different
kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing?
Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
NIV
John 13:13-15
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I
have done to you.
NKJV
2 Tim 2:4-6
No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs-he wants to please his commanding officer.
5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the
rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.
NIV
2 Tim 2:24-26
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility
correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that
they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
NKJV
Acts 20:26-27
Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not hesitated
to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
NIV
1 Tim 2:12-15
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was
formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 Nevertheless she
will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
NKJV
2 Tim 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
NIV
1 Tim 3:1-7
Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Now the
overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well
and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take
care of God's church?) 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.
7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.
NIV
Rom 2:21-24
You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you
steal? 22 You who say, "Do not commit adultery," do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who make
your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? 24 For "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles
because of you," as it is written.
NKJV
Whether you are Pastoring a church or leading a bible study, what we teach has a profound impact on new and young believers. And God will hold us accountable for what and how we teach.
