Feast of Unleavened Bread

Feast of Unleavened Bread

Living Holy to the Lord

Lev 15:31

"'You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean,

so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place,

which is among them.'" NIV

The Shadow:

Passover and the Feast of unleavened bread work hand in hand. The Blood of the Lamb brought redemption. Through our confession of faith and through water baptism, we enter a covenant with the father. We are a new creation. The feast of unleavened bread is making a decision to live Holy to the Lord. To Repent and be baptized.

Rev 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; NIV

Ex 12:14 'So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance. 15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat — that only may be prepared by you. 17 So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land. 20 You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.'" NKJV

The Feast of Unleavened bread is living Holy to the Lord. Egypt represents the world and darkness. While in Egypt, the people of Israel acquired the ways of the Egyptians. Leaven refers to sin, or corrupt living.

The month of Abib means ‘Green’ like a young ear of grain, or ‘New Life’ or Born again. The Hebrew word for ‘removing’ (leaven) is Sabbath, to rest, or to cease. Removing the leaven from our ‘dwellings’ represents leaving the ways and customs of Egypt behind, putting away our sin nature ‘beginning on the first day’ of our deliverance.

“You left Egypt in haste” means to Flee immorality. Do not love the world.

Deut 16:1 Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover of the Lord your God, because in the month of Abib he brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 Sacrifice as the Passover to the Lord your God an animal from your flock or herd at the place the Lord will choose as a dwelling for his Name. 3 Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste — so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt. NIV

In the wilderness

Manna ‘covered’ the camps of Israel in their journey to the promised land. Manna is Hebrew, questioning ‘what’ is it?' Israel was not familiar with the ‘frost’ that layered the camp which turned into a layer of ‘bread’ from heaven. The bread from heaven is our spiritual ‘food’ which feeds the spiritual man. This is the reference to the Lord’s prayer for giving us our daily bread. An Omer is a Sheath. The Sheaf points to the Messiah.

Ex 16:11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 "I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.'"

13 So it was that quails came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was.

And Moses said to them, "This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: 'Let every man gather it according to each one's need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.'" NKJV

Gen 37:5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it." NIV

John 6:32 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." 34 "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."

35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. NIV

Unleavened bread means ‘sweet’ greedily devouring for sweetness;

The pure and undefiled Word of God, with nothing added or taken away.

Jesus is the word that became flesh. Tempted in every way but without sin/Leaven.

Declaring Spiritual Truths from the Word of God.

Messiah is Hebrew for the Anointed one ‘Anointed with the sacred oil' for those serving God. (Christ is the NT Greek equivalent) Only Priests and Kings were anointed using the anointing Oil. The Anointing oil in the Scriptures is a shadow of the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant. The Spirit came down on Jesus to begin his ministry.

Jesus/Yeshua is King of Kings from the Line of David. Without genealogy, he is our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Compare Ex 12:33 with Luke 2:12; The son of God without sin as our Passover Lamb.

Ex 12:33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "For otherwise,"

they said, "we will all die!" 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added,

and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. NIV

Luke 2:12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." NIV

The word of God

Deut 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the

commands of the Lord your God that I give you. NIV

Ps 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. NIV

Matt 16:11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? — but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees. NKJV

2 Peter 3:16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain

some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other

Scriptures, to their own destruction. NIV

Clean/unclean. Unclean is to be in sin.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. NIV

3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning — the second day. NIV

God is a Holy God. From the beginning, God distinguishes between Darkness and Light, Good and Evil, Clean and Unclean. The Hebrew word for water figuratively means ‘seamen’ for creation, or bearing fruit. From the waters above (Gods spiritual children) to the waters below (the worldly). ‘The son’s of God from the daughters of men’ or The children of God from the children of the world.

Gods people are called to be holy, set apart from the nations. We are not to be yoked together with non-believers. To be yoked, is the young Ox alongside a older, and heavier, Ox to ‘teach’ you the work. We can be yoked with Jesus and ‘follow’ him as a disciple. Or we can be yoked to non-believers and be influenced and tempted with worldly thinking.

Clean (Kosher) animals represent the sons of God, who are ‘clean’ by the washing of the word, the significance of the Laver. Unclean animals are the daughters of men, unbelieving Gentile Nations. The sons of God and the daughters of men. The men of Israel married the daughters of the Pagan nations.

Lev 20:25 "'You must therefore make a distinction between clean and unclean animals and between unclean and clean birds. Do not defile yourselves by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground — those which I have set apart as unclean for you. 26 You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own. NIV

Gen 6:1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." NIV

Deut 7:3 Do not intermarry with them (the pagans). Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, 4 for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord's anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. NIV

Ezra 9:1 After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites. 2 They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness." NIV

2 Cor 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."

17 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." 18 "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

7:1 Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. NIV

Dead animals represent Pagan Gentiles.

Evening means up to the time of the New Covenant. Until Peters vision in Acts chapter 10.

Lev 11:31 Of all those that move along the ground, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening. NIV

From Pentecost, the New covenant of faith.

Acts 10:27 Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. 28 He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. NIV

God removes Yeast from his Dwelling

Israel’s sin cause God to remove the yeast (what causes sin) from his dwelling, within the borders of Israel.

After Gods deliverance and Israel entering a covenant with him, the people of Israel turned from God, intermarrying and following the practices of the pagan nations, thereby breaking the covenant with God. God therefore removed the 'leaven’ from his borders. Judah was sent to Babylon, and Israel was scattered to the four winds of the nations. The land had rest for 70 years as prophesied by scripture.

Seven days, as in the story of creation; living by the word of God, the Law that originates from Sinai, up to the Sabbath Rest, the New Covenant of faith.

Ex 13:6 For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival to the Lord. 7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. 8 On that day tell your son, 'I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.' 9 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the Lord is to be on your lips. For the Lord brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand. 10 You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year. NIV

Jer 25:8 Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: "Because you have not listened to my words, 9 I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon," declares the Lord, "and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin. 10 I will banish from them the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, the sound of millstones and the light of the lamp. 11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years. NIV

Ezra 9:11 'The land you are entering to possess is a land polluted by the corruption of its peoples. NIV

The reality: Living Holy to the Lord. In Christ we are a new creation.

Matt 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. NKJV

1 Cor 5:7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast — as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. NIV

Eph 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. NIV

Col 2:11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. NIV

James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. NIV

2 Tim 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. NIV

Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. NIV

Heb 9:13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! NIV

Matt 13:47 "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. NIV

Matt 15:16 "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. 17 "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'" NIV

Leprosy represents Man corrupted by sin/ being Unclean.

Lev 13:8 And if the priest sees that the scab has indeed spread on the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is leprosy. NKJV

Matt 8:1 When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. NIV

Lev 23:4 "'These are the Lord's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times:

5 The Lord's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; NIV
