Hebrew Roots

Gen 14:12 They also took Lot, Abram's brother's son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew… NKJV

The ‘Hebrew Roots’ of our faith, and the language itself goes deeper than most realize. Names, locations and other words in the Scriptures are Hebrew words transliterated, (The Hebrew letters are replaced by their English counterpart), yet to be translated into English. You cannot translate the scriptures without the use of the Hebrew/Greek dictionaries. Words are broken down in a way that changes the stories to reflect the New Covenant faith and their stories.

Deut 27:1 You shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have crossed over, that you may enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you, 'a land flowing with milk and honey,' just as the Lord God of your fathers promised you. NKJV

The word Hebrew comes from the Patriarch Eber, being his descendant. Eber is translated to ‘crossing over to the other side’ of a region, giving us the term Hebrew, transliterated from the Hebrew language to English.

The East and the West (Israel) are divided by the Jordan. Those returning from captivity had to cross the Jordan into the Holy land. That is the significance of the Hebrew term, meaning to “Cross over” to the other side of a region. And it is significant to the Gentile who has made the same transition, from bondage to our freedom in Christ.

John 5:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me

has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. NKJV

It is significant to the Gentile who has made the same transition, from bondage to our freedom in Christ. The true significance of ‘crossing over’ is in the New Covenant of faith, when we ‘cross over’ from death to life in the act faith.

Luke 16:19 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

25 "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' NIV

Jonah 1:9 So he said to them, "I am a Hebrew; and I fear the Lord,

the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land." NKJV
